How do you keep kids engaged in training over the long run – and motivate them to repeat the same drills again and again?
Our answer: the star cards. For the youngest players, we’ve turned them into a simple but surprisingly effective training chain.
It starts with the counter-hit, rising step by step in difficulty. From there it moves on to the push, the topspin and the block. Kids who work through the cards consistently can complete every task and, in the end, play simple drills with a partner.
Here’s how it works: First, you teach the kids the basics of the counter-hit. Then you motivate them to master the first task – 10 counters in a row. Whoever manages it gets a golden star sticker on the empty field. So simple, so effective.
The kids are hooked: everyone wants to complete all the tasks and, ideally, be the first in the group to collect every sticker.
